O/S version Version 2.1

Well, the cart got before the horse a little on this one.

By that I mean that Japan shipped us units with 2.1 installed, but the ability
to use removable media for recording is updated in the ROM chip on the HDR-TRI
board, not just the system software. So without the new ROM chip you cannot
actually use removable media.

I just came back from Japan and brought the new ROM chip with me - we have to
duplicate them still, so it will be a few more weeks before we have them
available for you.

If you want to check what ROM chip you have on a given HDR-TRI board, simply
hold ENTER and 9 while powering up - the display will show not only the
current OS but also the version of the HDR-TRI board. If it is 01.39 then it
is older and not ready for removable media.

The latest ROM number is 02.01. We will make this available as soon as
possible.

Basically, 2.1 adds the following features to 2.0:

1) SELECT MOUNT MODE - found on the DISK mode, Audio Utilities, upper tab
selection. This allows you to select Fixed or removable as the choice for
audio recording. If you select Fixed than you can only put removable media on
SCSI ID #6 and can't record or playback audio from it.

If you select Removable then you can set your removable drive (Jaz most
likely) on ID 0-5 and record and playback from it. The catch is that you
cannot "see" any fixed drive on the SCSI bus. Don't ask why - it's the only
way we could get them to modify the code to allow recording to removable
media. It was a worthwhile trade-off to get the feature.

2) It adds formatting support for Olympus and Sony MO drives for data storage
(you cannot record audio to MO, as it is too slow).

3) It fixes a small bug in the Sys Ex. recorder when working with devices that
dump large amounts of Sys. Ex. data in multiple, smaller segments (like the
Roland XP-50/JV-1080).

I have seen no problem like this - without the proper HDR-TRI ROM you simply
don't get the new features. And we have shipped non-expanded units with the
new software with no problem. I'll forward this message to our service guys to
see if they have any ideas.

Duly noted.

No problem.
