When connecting an unbalanced signal to the 192 I/O, and lifting the negative, I'm hearing a lot of hum and buzz.
 
A:
The 192 I/O's inputs are standard balanced connections. When connecting an unbalanced signal to the 192 I/O, you must first "combine" the negative (-) and the ground connections together.The 192 I/O output is not a standard connection; if it were, lifting the negative would be necessary in that instance.
