Q:
Mac OS X: to use or not to use?
A:
We are starting to get more and more requests and inquiries regarding the use of Mac OS X. At this time we are not recommending it for MIDI or audio work. This is a brand new operating system that contains many radical departures from the Mac operating systems we've come to know and love. We are confident that OS X will eventually be an excellent system upon which one can build an audio or MIDI based system, but right now it just isn't. Not that there's anything wrong with it. It's just that the software and hardware developers haven't had time to implement drivers and other technology required to make their products work in such a new environment. In our testing we can hardly get any MIDI to work at all. Some audio applications work, but anything that requires interfacing to extra hardware (i.e. soundcards) mostly doesn't work. It's probably going to be six months or so before you begin to see much meaningful progress on this (in terms of deliverable product).
