Any unit shipped from factory before 8/95 requires a factory authorized modification. Factory should pay a warranty claim forever as this is a design defect.

THE PROBLEM:
The reel drive belt can walk over the rim of its pulley and slip. This condition causes loss of tape tension and hense ERROR 2. When the tape is ejected the reels cannot retract the tape into the cartrige nad it is "eaten".

THE FIX:
Obtain a washer PART # M00360700A from Tascam, $0.75 ea.
Remove the transport (4 screws) and lay it on its back.
The belt will "appear" to be instsalled but it really is up on the rim. Center the belt on the pulley.
Clip the washer onto the pulley axel. It prevent the belt from walking onto the pulley rim.
Reinstall the transport.
