Q:
Is there a safe way to dry out a dynamic microphone if they get wet? We do a lot of outdoor compare work
A:
Whilst it probably should be avoided, you would be surprised at how resilient Dynamic mics are, and if not too wet, many can allowed to dry naturally in a warm dry atmosphere. If you are in a hurry use a hairdryer, (but not too close as the heat generated could cause capsule damage). Remove the head-grill, which is usually done by unscrewing anti-clockwise, to ensure you dry the inside effectively, and also pay attention to the base of the mic where it connects to the cable.
Place the mic in a warm airing cupboard if you are worried that it could still be damp. |
