Q. How do I use the Vocoder?
1. Plug a microphone into the Audio Input jack located on the back of the FIZMO. 2. Talk into the microphone and slowly turn the Input Volume knob clockwise until you see the Input Clip LED light up occasionally. The Input Clip LED is located just above the Effects section of the FIZMO’s front panel lights. 3. Select the Preset you would like to use the Vocoder with. 4. Press the Effects Select Insert button. 5. Press the +/Yes button until you see “Codr” in the display. 6. While pressing down on a key/keys, talk into the microphone. Q. How do I select which MIDI Channels I want FIZMO to respond to? The FIZMO is a six-channel MIDI device which allows you to direct incoming MIDI data to up to six internal areas such as Presets, Sounds, and Arpeggiator. Any six consecutive MIDI Channels can be used. To select the MIDI Channels you would like to use follow this procedure: 1. Press the Edit MIDI button until you see “bChn” in the display. 2. Press the -/No or +/Yes buttons to select lowest numbered channel you would like to use, this is called the “Base Channel”. The next 5 consecutive channels will also be used. **Note: If the Base Channel is Channel 12 or higher you will not have 6 MIDI Channels to work with.** Q. How do I select an Arpeggiator Preset? 1. Press the Arpeggiator On/Off button to turn it on. 2. Press the Arpeggiator Mode button until you see “PreSt” in the display. The display will then switch to show you the number of the currently selected Arpeggiator preset. 3. Turn the Value knob or use the -/No or +/Yes buttons to select a new Preset. Q. How do I change the Effects of a Preset? Each Preset can have two effects, an Insert Effect and a Global Reverb. These effects also have preset variations in which you can choose from. To select a Insert Effect follow this procedure: 1. Press the Effects select Insert button. 2. Use the -/No or +/Yes buttons to select a new Insert Effect. There is a list of 41 Insert Effects on page 18 of the User’s Guide. 3. Turn the Mix Knob to adjust how much effect you would like to use. 4. To try out the different variations of the Insert Effect you chose, press the Variation buttons. To select a Global Reverb follow this procedure: 1. Press the Effects select Reverb button. 2. Use the Variations buttons to select a new Reverb Effect. There is a list of 8 different Reverb Effects on page 19 of the User’s Guide. 3. Turn the Mix Knob to adjust how much effect you would like to use. Q. What are the FIZMO Knobs used for? The FIZMO Knobs are used to shape Presets in realtime. The F Knob adjusts the value to which Sys3 is applied as a modulator. In all Factory Presets, Sys3 modulates the Effects. The I Knob increase or decreases the modulation of the Preset’s waves. The Z Knob adjusts the filter cutoffs of the Preset’s oscillators. The M Knob detunes the Preset’s oscillators. The O Knob adjusts the value to which Sys4 is applied as a modulator. Q. How do I select a Sound in a Preset? 1. Press one of the four Sound slot buttons. 2. If other Sound slot buttons are flashing and you would like to hear only the Sound you have selected, then press the selected Sound slot button repeatedly until only the selected button is lit. 3. Use the -/No or +/Yes buttons to select a new Sound for that slot. 4. To turn on the other Sounds press their slot buttons twice. Q. How do I Save a Preset? 1. Press the Save button. It’s LED will begin to flash. The preset number you have edited will be displayed. 2. If you would like to save to a location other than the one that is shown in the display, use the -/No or +/Yes buttons to select a new location to save the Preset to. 3. Press the Save button again. The display will read “burn” and it is now saved in that location. Q. How do I Layer Sounds in a Preset? 1. Select the Preset you would like to use. 2. Press one of the four Sound slot buttons to select the first Sound in the Layer. 3. Use the -/No or +/Yes buttons to select a Sound for that slot. 4. Press another one of the four Sound slot buttons twice. 5. Use the -/No or +/Yes buttons to select a Sound for that slot. 6. To turn on the other Sounds press their slot buttons twice. 7. To map a Layer to a specific key range press and hold the Sound’s slot button. While holding down the button press the lowest key in the desired key range then press the highest key . Release the Sound button. Q. How do I restore the Factory Preset sounds? 1. Hold down the Save button. 2. Press the the Compare button. The display will read “rSt?”. 3. Press the +/Yes button. The display will read “burn”. Q. How do I store my Presets to an External MIDI device? 1. Plug a MIDI cable into the MIDI Out of the FIZMO into the MIDI In of an external MIDI storage device such as a sequencer. 2. Prepare the external device to receive a SysEx Dump. See the Owner’s Manual of the receiving device. 3. Press the MIDI Dump button. The LED will flash. 4. Use the -/No or +/Yes buttons to select a Preset to dump, or select “bAn1” to dump all the Presets in Bank 1, or select “bAn2” to dump all the Presets in Bank 2. 5. Press the Dump button again to execute the dump. 6. To dump a Sound select the Preset containing the Sound you would like to dump. 7. Press the Dump button. The LED will flash. 8. Press the Sound slot button of the Sound you would like to dump. 9. Press the Dump button again to execute the dump.
