Q. How do I Select a Patch?
1. In the MODE section press the [PATCH] button.
2. Use the [INC] [DEC] buttons or the [VALUE] dial to select a new Patch.
To select a Patch in a specific category follow this procedure:
1. In the MODE section press the [PATCH] button.
2. Press the [CATEGORY] button so that it lights.
3. Press one of the [NUMERIC CATEGORY] buttons [0] - [9] to select the category you would like.
3. Use the [INC] [DEC] buttons or the [VALUE] dial to select a Patch that is in the category you have chosen.


Q. How do I Select a Wave Expansion Patch?
1. In the MODE section press the [PATCH] button.
2. Press the Wave Expansion button [EXP A] - [EXP E] that contains the type of sounds you would like to play.
3. Use the [INC] [DEC] buttons or the [VALUE] dial to select a new Patch.


Q. How do I Select Percussion Sounds?
1. In the MODE section press the [RHYTHM] button.
2. Use the [INC] [DEC] buttons or the [VALUE] dial to select a new Percussion Patch.


Q. What are Performances and how do I Select them?
A. There are two types of Performances, Layer Performances and Single Performances. The upper right side of the display will indicate what type of performance it is. (“LAYER” for Layer performances and “PART” for Single performances). A Layer performance allows you to play two or more parts simultaneously on the keyboard for fat, rich sounds or splits. Select Single performances for playing songs using two or more parts. To select Performances follow this procedure:
1. Press the [PERFORM] button.
2. Use the [INC] [DEC] buttons or the [VALUE] dial to select a new Performance.
3. If the performance is a Single performance, use the Part select buttons [1 / 9] - [8 / 16] to play the different parts of the performance.
4. To toggle between Parts 1-8 and 9-16 use the [1-8 / 9-16] button.


Q. How many Arpeggiator Styles are there, and how do I Change them?
A. There are 43 different Arpeggiator styles. To select a different style follow this procedure:
1. Hold down the [Arpeggiator] button.
2. Use the [<] [>] buttons to move the cursor underneath “STYLE”.
3. Use the [INC] [DEC] buttons or the [VALUE] dial to select a new style.


Q. How do I Change the Tempo of the Arpeggiator?
1. Hold down the [Arpeggiator] button.
2. Use the [<] [>] buttons to move the cursor underneath “TEMPO”.
3. Use the [INC] [DEC] buttons or the [VALUE] dial to select a new tempo.
Q. How do I Transpose the keyboard in Semitone Steps?
1. Press and hold the [TRANSPOSE] button.
2. Press the [+OCT] or [-OCT] button. Each time you press the [+ / -OCT] button you will raise or lower the keyboard one semitone.
3. To turn off the transpose, press the [TRANSPOSE] button again so that its indicator light goes off.


Q. How do I turn the Effects On or Off for a Patch?
1. Press the [EFFECTS ON / OFF] button.
2. Use the [<] [>] buttons to select the type of effect you would like to switch.
3. Use the [INC] [DEC] buttons or the [VALUE] dial to switch it on or off.
4. Press the [EFFECTS ON / OFF] button again to return to the previous display.


Q. How do I Save a Patch I have modified?
1. Press the [UTIL / CARD] button.
2. Use the [<] [>] buttons to select “WRITE”.
3. Press the [ENTER] button.
4. Turn the [VALUE] dial to select the destination where you’d would like to save your new program .
5. Press the [ENTER] button.
6. Internal Write Protect will appear on the display if it is set to On. Use the [VALUE] dial to select Off.
7. Press the [ENTER] button.
8. Press the [ENTER] button again to perform the save.


Q. What type of Memory Cards can the XP-30 use?
A. The XP-30 can use the S2M-5 (2 MB type) and the S4M-5 (4 MB type) Smart Media cards.


Q. How do I Format a Memory Card?
1. Insert the memory card into the XP-30.
2. Press the [UTIL / CARD] button.
3. Press the down [ARROW] button until you see “1: CARD” in the display.
4. Press the [ENTER] button.
5. Use the [<] [>] buttons to select “FORMAT”
6. Press the [ENTER] button.
7. Memory Card Write Protect will appear on the display if it is set to On. Use the [VALUE] dial to select Off.
8. Press the [ENTER] button.
9. Press the [ENTER] button again to perform the format.


Q. How do I Adjust the Displays Contrast?
1. Press the [SYSTEM] button.
2. Use the page [<] [>] buttons to select the LCD.
3. Use the [INC] [DEC] buttons or the [VALUE] dial to increase the contrast value.
4. Press the [EXIT] button when finished.


Q. What is the Computer Connector for?
A. The XP-30’s built-in computer interface connector makes it easy to connect your synth to your computer. This will allow you to edit the XP-30’s sounds from a computer! You may also create and play back your own songs using an optional sequencing software package of your choice. The XP-30’s computer interface connector will access both Mac and PC computers so you won’t have to worry about the XP-30 not being compatible with your computer.
