Q:
Will it hurt anything to leave the phantom power on? Will it damage my microphones if the phantom power is on and the mics don’t require phantom power?
A:
A: It will not hurt anything to leave your phantom power on. Most dynamic or condenser microphones that don’t require phantom power will reject it. Ribbon mics are the exception here, sending phantom power to your vintage RCA 77DX will probably have disastrous consequences. You should refer to the specs of your microphone to be sure it is safe to turn on phantom power before plugging any microphone into an input with phantom power. Never plug line instruments into the XLR input jacks with phantom power engaged. This could damage your gear.
