Your midi sequencer, in addition to the patch number, has a place to select Controller 0 and 32 which are midi messages for managing bank selections. On the XP30, both are used together as follows:

Controller 32 selects the bank.
Controller 0 selects standard or expansion boards:
A value of 81 selects factory sounds.
A value of 84 selects expansion boards.
