How to Clean install your system and DP3, including wiping the hard drive.
 
A:
Here are the steps to wipe your Hard Drive and reinstall all your software.

1. Insert the CD labeled "RESTORE" which came with your G4
2. Go to the Apple menu, choose Control Panels >>> Startup Disk.
3. In the Startup Disk menu, choose the CDRom Icon "Restore"
4. Restart your computer.
...after restart, the Restore CD should appear at the TOP RIGHT of the screen (above the hard drive).
5. Double-click the CD icon & choose the RESTORE OS9 icon.
6. In the restore window that appears, choose the option that says, "ERASE MACINTOSH HD BEFORE RESTORING". Then click RESTORE at the bottom right of the window.
7. Whe initialization and installation is complete, Go to the apple menu, choose control panels & choose Startup Disk again.
8. This time, in Startup disk, choose Macintosh HD
9. Restart your computer.
... after restart, the Macintosh HD should appear above the CD. (you can eject the CD)

- your software has been reinstalled -

Make the following settings before resintalling your Digital Performer, etc.

1. Apple Menu >> Control Panels >> Memory
- set Virtual Memory to OFF
- set Disk Cache to CUSTOM, then lower it to 2048
2. APPLE Menu >> Control Panels >> Energy Saver
- set the "sleep time" to NEVER
3. Apple Menu >> Control Panels >> Extensions Manager.
- click on "My Settings" & change it to "OS9 BASE"
- then click DUPLICATE at the bottom of the window & name it PRODUCTION (MOTU, whatever you like)
- click the RESTART button at the bottom of the Extensions manager window.

- Now you can reinstall Digital Performer and other software

1. Insert the Digital Performer CD
2. Double-Click "Install Digital Performer"
3. Change EASY install to CUSTOM install
4. Place an X in the boxes that say "Digital Performer" and (PCI324 Consoles + Drivers)
5. Then click install
* from here you'll need to configure freemidi and the audio hardware as before.
