Q:
Assigning Pattern Parts to Individual Outputs on a MOTIF

A:
This information applies to the following models: MOTIF6, MOTIF7 and MOTIF8.

Assigning Parts to Individual Outputs can add dimension to a live performance or studio recording by routing a Part(s) to a specific hardware output jack(s). This allows the signal on that output to be processed separately by external audio gear, like a mixer and/or an effects processor.

By default, there are two assignable stereo outputs, Output L and R ('L&R') and Assignable L and R ('asL&R') and two assignable mono outputs, Assignable L ('asL') and Assignable R ('asR'). By adding an AIEB2 board, up to 3 more stereo outputs and 6 more individual mono outputs are selectable to make the creative possiblities even greater. See Table 1 below:

Output Select Jacks and Settings

Jack Setting Type Location
Output L and R L&R Stereo MOTIF
Assignable L and R asL&R Stereo MOTIF
Assignable L asL Mono MOTIF
Assignable R asR Mono MOTIF
Assignable 1 and 2 as1&2 Stereo AIEB2
Assignable 3 and 4 as3&4 Stereo AIEB2
Assignable 5 and 6 as5&6 Stereo AIEB2
Assignable 1 as1 Mono AIEB2
Assignable 2 as2 Mono AIEB2
Assignable 3 as3 Mono AIEB2
Assignable 4 as4 Mono AIEB2
Assignable 5 as5 Mono AIEB2
Assignable 6 as6 Mono AIEB2

Since there are up to sixteen Parts available in a Pattern, the user has the option to route any of these Parts to a specific output jack. In turn, these settings can be saved to the 'Mix' of the Pattern. This way, when the Pattern is loaded, the Parts are automatically assigned to the predetermined outputs making it easy setup the MOTIF on-the-fly.

NOTE: A special 'drum' setting is also available. This is used for Drum voice parts. In this case, routing for each Drum key follows the 'output' settings configured in the 'Drum Key Oscillator Output' section. See the MOTIF Owner's Manual, p 149.
