Q:
Q: My mixer has started to make a scratchy sound when I use some of the pots (dials). Is it going bad?
A:
A. Probably not. Over time, dust will seep down into the potentiometers and switches of any mixing console. Go to a pro audio store and purchase a spray cleaning fluid that leaves "zero residue." This must be a professional spray, and certainly not a lubricating spray. Anything other than this could leave a residue and cause more harm than good. Spray the cleaner into the noisy pot and "exercise" the pot (move it back and forth gently). This should make the noisiness disappear.
