1)The LM4-MK2 XXL included 3 Kit Connection CD’s. Acoustic Drums, Electronic
drums, and Bit Beats.
2)The LM4-MK2 file structure consists of three components. a) - Bank files
(.fxb) b) – Program files (.fxp) and c) – Audio files.
3)The Bank file (.fxb) includes a number of kits. Not the kits themselves
but only groups a number of kits together. Typically a specific genre’, e.g.
Jazz, acoustic, electronic, etc.
4)A Bank can include 20 kits but may be less or as little as one.
5)The Program files (.fxp) are a specific kit and contain reference to all
the components of the kit. That would be audio files, e.g. bass drum, snare
drum, crash cymbal, etc.
6)You do not need to load a Bank file to use a specific kit. You can load a
kit by selecting ‘Load Instrument’. When you select ‘Load Instrument’,
LM4-MK2 will only search for .fxp files.
7)The Acoustic Drums CD was developed for LM4 and not the LM4-MK2. There is
Bank files (.fxb) but no Program files (.fxp). This CD can be used with
LM4-MK2 but requires some effort by the user to create the Program files.
The text files on the CD are the ‘program’ files for LM4. The text files on
the CD can be imported (as per manual) into the LM4-MK2 and then saved as an
‘Instrument File’. You will then have a Program file (kit), which is
compatible with the LM4-MK2.
8)The Electronic Drums CD was developed for LM4 and not the LM4-MK2. There
is Bank files (.fxb) but no Program files (.fxp). This CD can be used with
LM4-MK2 but requires some effort by the user to create the Program files.
The text files on the CD are the ‘program’ files for LM4. The text files on
the CD can be imported (as per manual) into the LM4-MK2 and then saved as an
‘Instrument File’. You will then have a Program file (kit), which is
compatible with the LM4-MK2.
9)The Bit Beats CD includes Bank files (.fxb) and Program files (.fxp). This
CD is therefore ready for use with the LM4-MK2.
10)Bank files for all three CD’s are included on CD1, which is the LM4-MK2
install disc.
11)Once you have .fxp files for your kits, you no longer have any need for
the text files used with the LM4.
12)Now some pointers on using the files with the LM4-MK2:
13)Print the Content Information text files on the CD’s. This will help you
to see what kits belong to which banks and allow you to maintain the
structure.
14)Copy all the audio files for a Bank to a folder on your hard drive.
15)Start Cubase and open LM4-MK2.
16)‘Program 1’ will show in the top left drop down box.
17)On the bottom right you will see an icon that says ’32-Bit Drummodule’.
Right click (option click for Mac) on the icon.
18)A menu will appear. Select ‘Import LM4/LM9 Script.
19)Browse to where the LM4 text file (see 7 and 8 above) are and select the
kit that will be in the location of ‘Program 1’. The kit will load but the
name ‘Program 1’ will still be in the box.
20)Go to the ‘File’ box and select ‘Save Instrument’. Give the kit a name
and save it on your hard drive in the same location where you have placed
the audio files. It does not have to be placed there but it seemed to make
sense to keep everything together. The name ‘Program 1’ still appears in the
top left box.
21)You can now select ‘Load Instrument’ and you will find the kit that you
have just saved. Select it and once loaded the ‘Program 1’ name will change
to the name you gave to the kit.
22)Select ‘Program 2’.
23)Go through the process listed from 16 through 21 above. Only now the
reference will be ‘Program 2’ until you load the file you have saved.
24)Continue with the above until you have created all the kits that will
form part of the group, style, genre’, whatever you want to call it.
25)You now have a number of kits (up to 20) that you can select as desired.
26)Select ‘File’ and then ‘Save Bank’.
27)Browse to the location of your audio files and save the bank with a name
you choose. Now your Bank (.fxb) exists.
28)Test what you have just achieved. Open a new Cubase file, select LM4-MK2,
select ‘File’ then ‘Load Bank’ and select the bank you have created. The
Bank will load and all the kits for the bank will be available to you.
