Sometimes the pitch of my playback audio is incorrect?
 
A:
When the DI-10 receives digital audio data, it passes it on to the ASR-10 circuitry, along with any identifying data that identifies the sample rate, etc. of the digital data. The default of some machines with 48kHz capabilities is 48kHz. When this machine is outputting 44k and it is stopped before the sampling is stopped, it may send out an identifier that says that the data is 48k and not 44k. The ASR already sees information coming into it and will lock on that signal, which will cause an out-of-tune sample.

The ASR-10 tries to compensate for it being 48 and not 44 and shifts samples down accordingly. It tries to fit 48k of samples into 44k. The actual data is already 44k so it is squished and the pitch goes up accordingly.

Here is the work-around:

This is the order that you should use regardless of which CD or DAT you are using:

1. Boot the ASR-10.

2. Connect the CD.

3. Play the CD.

4. Begin sampling.

5. End sampling.

6. Stop CD.

Following this procedure should ensure the sample plays back at the correct pitch.
