It's usually best to give Windows its own partition, along with any programs you will be installing. Audio and other data should be contained on another hard drive or at least another partition on the same drive.

Generally, the Primary DOS partition should be only a few gigabytes. Windows 98 will take approximately 250mb (1/4 of a gig) and typically a good bunch of programs will take from 1-2 gigabytes, so you might want to set 2-5gb as your primary.

The leftover space is best used as another drive by creating an Extended DOS partition with a Logical DOS partition on it (in FDISK).

Reasons for keeping the boot partition small is:

* To maximize the other partition's size
* To keep the OS and programs in one location
* To keep file management easier
* If you need to format your hard drive to reinstall or upgrade your Windows, you can safely do this without disturbing your data partition. If you reformat, your programs will need reinstalling anyway.
