Q:
Current issues with new G4's (G4's with "mirrored drive doors")

A:
Un-published. current information available in other articles.

Here's a listing of the current testing status and known issues with the new G4's

- Fan noise : The new G4's have variable speed fans which are temperature sensitive.  The fans WILL speed up to "high gear" for a few moments from time to time. The fans are a bit louder at normal speed but at high speed, they're much louder than previous G4 models.

- OS9 : The new G4's come with OS9 installed on the OS10
partition. So these G4's will work as dual-boot systems.  They do NOT come with OS9 installers. OS9 can only be installed with the "Restore" CD set that installs OSX and OS9.
We've found a a way to install OS9-only on these G4's, but
it's not permanent solution.

- SCSI cards : The ATTODCUW a.ka. SCSI64kit will work. If no SCSI device are attached to the card, the computer takes longer to boot.

- Digidesign products * Please note that Digidesign has not yet posted approval for any pf their products on new G4's. *
- MBox : Our test show that MBox works

- Digi001 : 8/29/02 — Digidesign has identified a problem with the new Apple Dual 867 and Dual 1 GHz CPUs when using Digi 001 PCI host cards with chip version #3F48S.

Digi 001 host cards have a large DSP chip that is located just above the area on the card that is inserted into the PCI slot. The version number (either 3F48S or 2K30A) is printed on the chip.

Digi 001 systems with the 3F48S revision host cards hang on startup when trying to load the DigiSystem INIT extension. Digidesign is researching the problem and will post more information here as it becomes available..

- ProTools HD : Our tests show that HD works on the new G4's

- Mark of the Unicorn products

- Digital Performer 3.02 appears to work quite well.

- 2408Core worked fine. Since other PCI324 based units (1224, 1296, 24i, 308) use the same card and driver, we're comfortable in assuming that they will work too.

- The 896 and 828 worked fine.

We will post new test results as the develop.
