Q:
How do I open or load up a Native instrument in Logic?
A:
Opening a VST-plug-in from within Logic
VST instruments are controlled from an „AudioInst“ (for „Audio Instrument“) track in the Arrange window. This track handles all the MIDI data that controls the instrument, such as Pitch, Velocity, MIDI-Controller etc. The audio outputs of the VST-instrument are passed automatically to the Mixer/Enviroment channel-fader of the respective „AudioInst“ and from there to „Audio-Out 1-2 (Master)“ however, they can also be flexibly re-routed. Spur in AudioInst-Spur verwandeln (Vergrößern) If an „AudioInst“ track is not visible in the Arrange window you may transform a track of your choice into an Audio-Instrument track: Click and hold (don’t double-click!) on the name of the chosen track until a flip-down menu appears, then choose „-› Audio -› „AudioInst1..“. Opening the plug-in (click to enlarge) Opening the plug-in A double-click on the track icon „AudioInst1“ (or choosing „View -› Environment“) opens the Environment window showing the channel-faders of all tracks. Clicking and holding on the top rectangular field of „AudioInst 1“ above the heading „Inserts“ opens a flip-menu of all plug-ins available to Logic. This menu is ordered by type of plug-in. Choose, for example, „-›Stereo -› VST -› B4“. After being chosen the instrument name appears in the „Inserts“ box and the plug-in opens. (If no window opens then you need to double-click on the instrument name in the rectangular „Inserts“ field.) The plug-in is now available for use and can be played, recorded and edited just like a midi-instrument. If you cannot hear the sound of the plug-in the cause may be: The volume of the plug-in is turned down. The switch in the window of the plug-in is set to „Bypass“. The volume fader in the Environment window of Logic is set to zero. The appropriate track is not selected in the Arrange window. No plug-in instrument is open. When REAKTOR or DYNAMO are opened as plug-ins, the plug-in window remains empty until you load a REAKTOR-Instrument or Ensemble. If you're using Logic for Mac OS you have to open the stand-alone version of REAKTOR too.
