Q:
When exporting an OMF from an Avid system or converting to OMF with Digitranslator, what is the difference between creating external OMFI media vs. creating embedded OMFI media?
A:
Embedded media creates one single OMFI file that contains both the metadata (roadmap of how to assemble the audio on the timeline) and the media files. Embedded files can be very large in size depending on the project.
External media is similar in structure to a Pro Tools session and its audio files. Its comprised of one small OMFI file containing metadata only, and a separate folder containing all of the media files.
