The S1000 uses custom memory Akai part #EXM005 (2Mb card) and #EXM008 (8Mb card). Stock unit comes w/2Mb (one EXM005 installed into one memory slot). There are 4 memory slots total (requires hardware mod to install any memory over stock 2Mb); can be be updated to 32Mb via (4) 8Mb expander boards (EXM008). You can mix any combination of EXM005 and EXM008. Memory is displayed in Megawords (equals 1/2 the amount of MB). EX: 4 Megawords = 8Mb.
