Pro Audio Support

Q:
Suggested list of control panels and extensions to be used with ProTools 4.1.1 and earlier (avoiding extension conflicts).

A:
As for Extensions and Control Panels, here's a minimum set you can try. Control Panels: Apple Menu Options General Controls Memory * Mouse Monitors Mt. Digi OMS Preferred Device * Quick Time Settings* Sound * Views *Note: keep in mind that in the Memory control panel the disk cache has to be at, or under 512K; Virtual Memory and RAM Disk should be off; (if you have modern memory manager listed, it should be on). In the "Views"control panel, the only relevant setting is "Calculate Folder Sizes,"and it must be unchecked (i.e. off). OS 8 doesn't use a "Views"Control Panel, but instead allows you to set this parameter independently for each drive and folder in the Views menu (with a drive or folder open, select "List" in the Views menu. Again in the Views Menu, go to View Options: the "Calculate Folder Sizes" option will be there and should be disabled).Extensions: Apple CD-ROM Foreign File Access High Sierra File Access Audio CD Access ISO 9660 File Access Find File Finder Scripting DigiSystem INIT * Digidesign Sound Drivers OMS * QuickTime* QuickTime Power Plug* Sound Manager *The ones marked with "*" are the the most important to have the PT system operational. The others are minimum system extensions that might be necessary for other functionality, like for a CD ROM drive. This set reflects a PowerPC based computer, computers with 68K CPUs (like the Quadras) may need additional extensions and control panels (such as A/ROSE, SysAxe, Serial Switch or 68K Runtime Enabler). Keep in mind also that you'll need to customize this to your system. If for instance you have a JAZ drive, you'll need to add the Iomega extension; but the list above gives you a skeleton for you to base your sets on. Also, with OS 8, you should have the Appearances Control Panel. Without it, the computer may not boot up properly.
