Q:
"An error has occured while updating USD firmware. Reason: Could not load the primary bootstrap program. Existing firmware may still operate. Please power USD off then back on and relaunch USD setup." when attempting to update the USD firmware via USD Setup with the USD connected to a G3.[SerialDMA 2.1 update]
A:
If the customer is using a G3-based Mac (beige or blue/white), the Mac must be running MacOS 8.5.1 or later. Upgrading the USD firmware will fail if using an older version of MacOS.If the user has a d24, mix core or mix farm, the USD firmware should be upgraded via the digiserial port from within Pro Tools 4.31 or later. With operating systems before 8.51, updating the USD setup with the USD connected to a G3 does not work regardless of the version of the firmware that you are trying to update. An updated SerialDMA (2.1) that fixes this problem is available from Apple: ftp.info.apple.com
