Q:
What utility should I use to format my hard drive? Hard Disk Toolkit (HDT) or ExpressPro-Tools (EPT)?
A:
It is highly recommended that all drives be formatted with a single drive utility (EPT 2.3.2 or HDT 3.02). HDT 3.02 has been tested through the Pro Tools 5.0 release and has not been tested with the 5.01 release. EPT 2.3.2 is the currently recommended hard disk utility. If striped video drives are used in conjunction with a Pro Tools AV system you will need to break the rule of using one type of driver. If Express-RAID 2.3.2 is used on your audio drive (which must not be striped) every time audio is accessed the video drive playback may be momentarily interrupted. This can cause a buffer underun in Pro Tools. To avoid this problem RAID drives should be formatted with the ATTO Express-RAID 2.3.2 utility and audio drives should be formatted with ExpressPro-Tools 2.3.2.
