Q:
Why is there so much background noise in the samples that I made (as opposed to those from the sample CD)?
A:
The audio outputs of the SampleCell II card have a fixed noise floor, therefore, the quieter the sample level, the louder the apparent "background noise". Thus, it is very important to maximize the overall signal level of samples that you create, firstly, during the initial recording process (by recording the hottest signal possible before clipping), and then after editing the sample just before loading into SampleCell (by Normalizing the audio file).
