getting distortion when doing a digitaltransfer from a ADAT via lite pipe . Alsooccurs when recording analogLots of interfaces, 888/24 ADAT bridge, AD8000.

This could be caused by a cable going to Pro Tools Interface that is to long coming from ANY sync device. Check BNC cable lengths. 6 ft BNC cables (supplied by alesis) can cause this problem. Use only supplied BNC cables from Digidesign.
