Pro Tools will stop auto scrolling once zoomed in passed a certain level (typically with only a few seconds showing in the Edit window).
A:
There is a max zoom level at which you can view the waveforms from cached data. After that to display waveforms we must start reading directly from disk. At that point scrolling would cause disk reads in order to display the waveform. This would interfere with playback performance. So scrolling is turned off. You can quickly get the max level by Cmd-clicking on the zoom tool in the edit window.
