Q:
How do I get an OMF with audio and video from an AVID into Pro Tools? Does Digitranslator handle embedded video?
A:
Digi Translator (and therefore, Pro Tools) doesn't deal with "embedded" Video OMF's. The video must be a separate video media file(s) that the OMF sequence points to. Audio can be embedded, and video can't. When doing an export from Media Composer or other AVID system, the sequence should contain a video track (and only one video track) but "Audio Only" should be selected in the export window. This way the audio can be embedded (by checking the "With Media" box), if you want, and the video files need to ride along side. Also, it's a good idea to consolidate those video files in the Composer before you do the export so that you're only sending as much video as you need to. Even though "Audio Only" is selected, if there is a video track in the sequence that is being exported the video track info will make it through Digi Translator to Pro Tools. When you open the Pro Tools session it will ask where the video files for this video track are.
