Q:
With record count off enabled in slip mode, Pro Tools varies the number of clicks it gives before dropping into record depending on where the cursor is placed on the track in Pro Tools 5.3.1
A:
While this behavior is usually desirable when working with music in grid mode, there are situations in slip mode where one would want a finite number of clicks, no matter where the cursor is placed. For instance, if you're doing ADR, it would be desirable to set the time signature to 3/4 and have Pro Tools give 3 clicks before dropping into record to cue talent. It seems that even in slip mode, Pro Tools is still referencing the cursor's proximity to the bar/beat grid.In grid mode this is good because no matter which beat you're on, you always get a full measure, plus any additional beats before it goes into record. For example, if the cursor is on beat 2 in 3/4 time, you'll get 3 +1 clicks (a full measure + 1 beat).Slip mode is designed for "free" editing so the count off should be free of any grid constraints. If you're in 3/4 you should get 3 clicks.Currently, this is the way Pro Tools works. This may be addressed in a future release.
