Q:
"Missed the sync point due to time spent allocating disk space. Please use a larger pre-roll or limit disk allocation for better performance" when syncing a video deck to Pro Tools.
A:
This error message is due to fragmentation on the hard drive. Because of fragmentation, Pro Tools is too occupied with allocating disk space to go into sync. The ultimate solution, for this situation, is to back-up what's on your hard drive and reinitialize it. Then, there won't be any fragmentation on the hard drive and Pro Tools will operate much more effeciently. However, there is a work-around that can help in the meantime. The work-arounds:1) Setups > Preferences > Operation Tab > Open Ended Record Allocation > Set to "Limit To: 60 minutes". If your recorded tracks are shorter than 60 minutes set the record allocation time amount for less.and/or2) For example: - In Pro Tools > Windows > Show Session Setup.- If the video session starts at 1 minute, put the Pro Tools "Session Start" time to 58 seconds.- Roll back the video deck to 54 seconds. - Put Pro Tools "Online" . Press play on the video deck and Pro Tools should sync up to the video deck. - This gives Pro Tools time to allocate disk space and go into sync.
