Tapping fingers when when trying to record online after canceling (cmd - .) and stopping time code on a previous online record.

This is a known issue with Pro Tools HD and SYNC I/O. Currently, the workaround is to toggle the online button within Pro Tools or resume time code (at which point it will be in online playback).This will be fixed in a later version of Pro Tools.
