Some of my Rim Shots aren't loud enough. Why?

Q. Some of my Rim Shots aren’t loud enough. Why?

A. When playing rim shots make sure that you’re hitting both the rim and the head at the same time. It takes a little practice to get equal levels of head and rim volume. You should avoid hitting just the rim too hard.
