A:
Optimizing your OSX system for DP4.
Mac OSX makes it much easier optimize your system for Digital Performer 4. You no longer have to allocate RAM or trim extensions as we did in earlier Mac operating systems. A. MOTU currently recommends having the latest versions of OSX; 10.3.9 or 10.4.1. Check motu.com for software updates and compatibility information. B. Be sure to update to the latest version of DP. Check for DP updates at motu.com You'll also want to make sure your audio and midi hardware has the latest available drivers. 1. In SETUP > CONFIGURE AUDIO SYSTEM > Configure Hardware Driver : Set "Host Buffer Multiplier" to 1 (one) if you're using one audio interface (if you're using two, you can leave it at it's default level 2). 2. In SETUP > CONFIGURE AUDIO SYSTEM > Configure Studio Size : Set "Disk Read Write" to 150, and "Buffer Size per Voice" to 150. C. We recommend these Mac OSX settings in order to avoid conflicts while Digital Performer is running. From the Apple Menu, choose System Preferences, and make the following adjustments: 1. Click ENERGY SAVER. Set "Put the computer to sleep...." to NEVER. 2. Return to System Preferences by clicking "Show All", and click SOUND. In the Sound Effects page, turn OFF the item "Play user interface sound effects". 3. Return to System Preferences by clicking "Show All", and click QUICKTIME. In the Update page, turn OFF "Check for updates automatically". 4. Return to System Preferences by clicking "Show All", and click CLASSIC. In the Start/Stop page, turn ON "Warn before starting Classic". 7. Return to System Preferences by clicking "Show All", and click SOFTWARE UPDATE. In the Update Software page, turn OFF "Automatically check for updates..." You can periodically check for updates, by clicking the "CHECK NOW" button in the Software Update panel. We recommend that you QUIT all applications before doing this.
