Q:
MOTU Issue: I wish to bounce 24 tracks into my computer from my DA-88s, and then back to my DA-88s.
A:
You would need a machine that could record 24 tracks at a time. Probably a G3 with 128 MB of RAM.
If you have a Digital Timepiece, you can dump tracks into the Audio Desk and back out to the DA-88 in the exact same sample location. This is sample accurate sync, the tightest possible sync available in any program. With this type of synchronization, you could actually do 8 tracks at a time with three transfers. When you transfer them all back they will still be in the exact same location. If you have an SY-88 card, you could use a device that can translate MTC or SMPTE, like our MTPAV. The SMPTE from your SY-88 card would go to the interface while word clock would go the 2408. With this set up, you could get phase accurate sync. This means you can have a variation of + or -30 samples. There will be no drift and you won't hear any phase drift as long as you keep your stereo pairs together when transferring.
