Q:
MOTU Issue: Cannot Detect MIDI Interface

A:
Typically the Device Manager tab of the System Control Panel will only display the resources in use by Plug & Play devices. Any Legacy devices you have installed in your PC will not post which resources they occupy here. It is possible that some Plug & Play soundcards have a Legacy Emulation mode in order to claim compatibility with DOS games. One such example is the Creative Sound Blaster Audio PCI 64V which is found in some Gateway PCs. This soundcard is built onto the motherboard of the Gateway G6-300, and can interfere with the IRQ for the LPT port for the reason mentioned above. Although this should not interfere with the PCI-324, it may cause you to have difficulty setting up a MIDI interface on your LPT port. To correct this, you can turn off the Legacy Emulation mode for this device in Device Manager. To do so, open the System Control Panel, select the Device Manager tab, and expand the list for Sound, Game and Video Controllers. Highlight the Creative Sound Blaster Audio PCI 64V and select the Properties button. In the next window, select the Settings tab, and turn off "Legacy Emulation". Once you have restarted your PC, you will be able to configure a MIDI interface on the LPT port. You should noe be able to perform an Auto Setup on the MOTU driver successfully. If the Auto Setup is not successful, try pressing the Reset button in the lower right corner of the driver window and perform another Auto Setup.
