Q:
MOTU Issue: Understanding Adjust Beats I
A:
In this exercise, we'll essentially be turning 1 bar of 8th notes at quarter note = 60BPM into 2 bars of quarter notes (quarter note = 120 BPM) while still maintaining the same tempo feel. Try the following exercise before hacking at your music:
1. Create a new sequence where the tempo (using the conductor track, not the tempo slider) is set to 60bpm. 2. Enter in 8 8th notes in sequence into one bar 3. Open the graphic editor for that measure. 4. From the change menu choose Adjust beats. 5. Choose Drag Beats in graphic editor, Adjust Beats, Apply adjusted beats tempo until end of sequence, preserve realtime performance and snapping to Notes. 6. Go back to the graphic editor. 7. On the time ruler, click drag beat 2 an 8th note earlier (drag 1|2|000 ahead to 1|1|240). You'll notice that your durations have turned to quarter notes and you now have two measure of quarter notes at 120 instead of 1 measure of 8ths at 60.
