MOTU Issue: Studio Vision and MMC with the MTPAV

A:
Here are the steps needed in order to get Studio Vision to recognize the MTPAV and the ADAT sync port. The MTPAV must be set to Internal Mode for this to work. If you are unsuccessful with this procedure, try reinitializing the MTPAV by holding down the Panic button while turning the unit on. This will set the MTPAV to it's factory default of Internal/48k. Note: You will lose any user Modifications that you have made to the interface when you perform a hard reset.

1)You must first configure OMS while no other applications are running. The MIDI Timepiece AV is recognized by OMS as an original MIDI Timepiece, but OMSdoesn't support the MTP AV's ADAT sync port. In order to send MMC to the ADAT sync port you need to create a custom device in your OMS Setup, and enter the following properties in the MIDI Device Info window:

It should send and receive both MIDI Time Code and MIDI Machine Control, and have a Device ID of 19. The MTP AV's default device ID is 20; the MTP AV counts device ID's from 1-128 and OMS counts them from 0-127. You can connect it to any port; since MMC is non-cablized, it does not need to be connected to a specific port. It can even share a port with another device without causing any problems. Give the device the name "MTP AV." Save this file and quit OMS.

2) From your OMS-based application you will then be able to direct MMC to the MTP AV. As an example, in Vision DSP choose Sync Options from the Options menu. Set the Receive Sync setting to “MTC/Machine Control” and choose MIDI Timepiece instead of IAC bus.

3) Make sure the MTP AV appears in Vision's MMC window. When you press play in Vision, an MMC command is sent to the MTP AV for it's clock to start. The MTP AV will then send MTC to Vision and ADAT sync to the ADAT.
