Using your Roland Virtual Sound Canvas with Digital Performer, Performer, Freestyle or Mosaic.


1. Open FreeMIDI. In the File menu, select FreeMIDI preferences.

2. Enable “Inter-application MIDI” and click OK. Quit FreeMIDI.

3. Open your Sound Canvas program.

4. In the MIDI menu, choose Driver Settings and select “Use FreeMIDI”.


With Sound Canvas launched in the background you can open your Motu application and your Sound Canvas will now be available as an Output Device.



Publishing patchlists for the Roland Virtual Sound Canvas
Note: Freestyle users will not have to go through these steps as Freestyle will automatically publish a General MIDI patchlist for the Sound Canvas.

The following instructions will allow you to create a patchlist matching your Virtual Sound Canvas version and publish the patchlist in Digital Performer, Performer, or Mosaic. Currently you must follow these steps if you wish to use a patchlist with your Sound Canvas. Future versions of FreeMIDI will incorporate patchlists as they become available and therefore this step will not be required. As of this writing, Bank Select is not possible with Inter-application MIDI. Therefore you will only have access to the first Bank in your patchlist.

1. In the System Folder> FreeMIDI folder> Default Names folder, create a folder titled “Applications” without the quotes.

2. In the Default Names folder> Roland folder, find a patchlist that resembles your Sound Canvas version the most. For example, the SC-7, SC-88, or some other device.

3. Make a copy of that document.

4. Rename this copy to match the model name of your soft synth. For example, VSC-3.0 or VSC-88. This is your new patchlist.

5. Open this patchlist and enter this string at the top of the document:

'MGsc'

6. Now place your new patchlist in the Applications folder that you created in the System Folder > FreeMIDI Folder > Default Names Folder.

Your new patchlist should display in Digital Performer, Performer, or Mosaic. You may have to restart the computer for the new patchlist to take effect.
