Q:
If I want to purchase another hard drive for my Alesis HD24, do I need to get a 7200rpm drive?
A:
No. The Alesis HD24 uses an optimized linear file system which does not require a high-speed drive. A simple IDE/ATA 5400 rpm drive will suffice, and upgrading to a 7200 rpm drive, while it will not cause any problems, offers no benefits in performance. There is also no need to defragment the drive.
