Q:
How do I completely (clean) uninstall and reinstall Cakewalk Sonar 2?
A:
Here are the instructions to perform a clean uninstall of Cakewalk. If you would like to save your Audio Data folder settings, go to Options > Audio > Advanced Tab (if you have SONAR 2 or HS 2004, go to Options > Global > Audio Data), and write down the exact address of your Data Directory (Global Audio Folder if you have SONAR 2 or HS 2004). After you reinstall, you will need to change this setting back to the address that you have written down.
A) Completely uninstall Cakewalk from your computer. This is normally done from Start | Programs | Cakewalk. If "Uninstall Cakewalk" is not available to you here, use Control Panel | Add Remove Programs. If Cakewalk appears in this list, uninstall it from here. Restart your computer. B) Click the Windows Start button and select Run. At the prompt type REGEDIT and click OK. As a precaution, back up your Registry before making edits; do this by clicking File | Export from within the Registry Editor. If you are using Windows 2000, choose Registry | Export Registry File. Make sure `All' is selected, choose a location, and save the file. You do not have to save your audio effect presets, but if you want to, do the following: * Find the folder that says "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" and click the plus sign. Do this for the folder "Software," then "Cakewalk Music Software," and then "ActiveMovie." Now left-click on the "Presets" folder once to select it. Choose File | Export (for Windows 2000, choose Registry | Export Registry File), make sure `Current Branch' is selected, choose a location, and save the file. After you have complete all of these instructions, you may restore your presets by double-clicking this saved file and choosing `yes' to add the information to the registry. Now delete the following keys using the instructions below: * Find the folder that says "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" and click the plus sign. Do this for the folder "Software," and then the folder "Cakewalk Music Software." If you only have one Cakewalk program installed, you should right-click on the "Cakewalk Music Software" folder and select Delete. If you have more than one Cakewalk program installed, find only the folder for the program you are uninstalling (i.e. "Cakewalk Home Studio" for Home Studio 2002). If you have SONAR, and have more than one version installed, expand the SONAR folder to view the different versions. Right click on the appropriate folder and choose Delete. Now minimize all open folders. * Find "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE," and click the plus sign. Do this for "SOFTWARE," and then for "Cakewalk Music Software." If you only have one Cakewalk program installed, you should right click on the "Cakewalk Music Software" folder and select Delete. If you have more than one Cakewalk program installed, find only the folder for the program you are uninstalling (i.e. "Cakewalk Home Studio" for Home Studio 2002). If you have SONAR, and have more than one version installed, expand the SONAR folder to view the different versions. Right click on the appropriate folder and select Delete. C) From the Windows Start menu, search for and delete the following files: If you have Guitar Tracks Pro: GP2AudDX.INI and AUD.INI All other programs: TTSSEQ.INI and AUD.INI D) Restart your computer. Go to the Start Menu, select Run, and type in MSCONFIG. Under the General tab of the System Configuration Utility, select Selective Startup, uncheck Load Startup Items, and restart your computer. This will stop all background applications from loading unless you manually re-enable them. (If a "System Configuration" message appears the next time you restart your computer, simply check the "Do not show me this message again" box and hit OK.) If you are running Windows 2000, instead of using Msconfig, hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and manually shut off all applications and processes that are running. E) After all background applications are turned off, reinstall Cakewalk using the default directories.
