Q:
Why does my EMU 1212, 1820, or 0404 card keep detecting as a Soundblaster Audigy card? How do I clean uninstall and reinstall the EMU drivers on Windows XP?

A:
Here are steps to clean un/reinstall the EMU drivers:

Go into Windows Add/Remove Programs and remove any Creative, Sound Blaster or E-MU listings. If you reboot before finishing, go back and get the rest of them.

Then, go into My Computer and browse to your main hard drive, and then open the Program Files folder, then delete the Creative and Creative Professional folders.

Now,
1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Process System.ini File, Process WIn.ini File, and Load Startup Items check boxes. You cannot clear the Use Original Boot.ini check box.
3. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
4. Click OK, and then click Restart to restart your computer.

Next: Run CTZAPXX,exe

Choose the driver uninstall option. Choose the option to delete all shared Creative audio driver files.

You can find this file by inserting the install CD and browsing to the X:\Audio\Drivers folder and double clicking on the CTZAPXX.exe file

Now reboot your computer, and then reinstall the E-MU drivers and programs from the install CD, without using the "Found New Hardware Wizard."

If the above procedure does not work you will need to search for the individual driver files. Below is a list of those files you can search for them using START > Search > For Files and Folders. When you find a file, you can rename it and go to the next file.

You may not find all of the files but rename as many as you can find.

COMMONFX.DLL
CTAC32K.SYS
CTAUD2K.SYS
CTAUDFX.DLL
CTBAS2W.DAT
CTBAS2W.DAT

DEFAULT.ECW
EMUPIA2K.SYS
HA10KX2K.SYS

After renaming all of these files, reboot your computer and try to install the E-MU again, from theInstallation CD.
