Go to the Apple menu > System Preferences and choose Energy Saver. In this panel, click the "Options" page. If a "Processor Performance" option is available at the bottom of this page, set it to "Highest."

In ProTools, go to the SETUP menu and choose Playback Engine. There, raise the CPU Usage Limit to the highest option avaiable - but DO NOT choose %99.
