Q:
How do I enable Gigastudio as a REWIRE device in Sonar?

A:
The first thing to do when setting up REWIRE with Gigastudio is to decide how many channels you would like Gigastudio to output to Sonar.

We can change the number of REWIRE channels in the Gigastudio Configuration manager. You may access this in Start > Programs > Tascam > GigaStudio3 > GigaStudio Configuration Manager

By going into Gigastudio Configuration Manager, you may select the Rewire/Plugins tab. Here you will have the option to raise the total number of REWIRE audio channels you would like to use. The default setting is 2 which is good for input to a stereo mix. If you would like to have independent control over the instruments, activate more than two channels.

Note the following:

1. It's important to realize the higher the number of REWIRE channels, the more CPU resources will be consumed.
2. It's easy to adjust the number of Rewire outputs at any time by adjusting the number of channels in the Configuration Manager.
3. Keep in mind that if a session is saved with several REWIRE output channels, if the number of channels is lowered, sessions will not work work properly.

Now for the Setup:

1. Make sure all audio applications are not running in order to ensure the proper operation of REWIRE.
1. Open Sonar and create a session
2. Go to Insert > Rewire devices and add Giga3
3. On the Synth Options, select the following:
a. MIDI Source Track
b. All Synth Outputs
c. Synth Properties Page (This will cause GS3 to launch)
d. Synth Rack View
4. Click Ok to open the instrument.
5. Once Gigastudo is loaded, you may add instruments to a performance as usual.
6. You may have noticed by now that by creating the Gigastudio REWIRE device, one midi track and the number of active REWIRE channels were created.
7. After loading an instrument into the first bank in Gigastudio, verify the MIDI track output in Sonar is set to GigaStudio Port 1 Channel 1
8. If the MIDI track is record armed, you should be able to hear GigaStudio respond to keyboard input.

This concludes the steps for initiating GigaStudio as a REWIRE device. If you would like to convert the GigaStudio Tracks, refer to documentation regarding the Bounce to Track function.
