The sample rate knob in fact does not affect the USB output. Since the USB output can do SRC(Sample Rate Conversion), the sample rate knob only affects the digital outputs(AES and SPDIF)

Thus you can set the digital outputs to be at 24 bit 96Khz operation while sending a 16 bit 48Khz signal to the computer at the same time.
