Q:
My MBox and/or 002 works fine in Pro Tools, but I can't hear any sound from other applications on my PC. Why??
A:
In Pro Tools version 7, the Digidesign ASIO driver should be selected as the primary sound output source. The ASIO driver will work in any software that supports ASIO, as well as the default Windows Audio device. Make sure this driver is chosen.
However, in earlier version of Pro Tools, there is no ASIO driver like this. Additionally, the Digidesign Wavedriver is proprietary; that is, it only supports the Pro Tools software. This can be a problem, especially if you want to hear audio from, say, the internet, or a CD/DVD, or an application for mp3 playback, through your hardware. This is especially problematic for common application, such as: • Windows Media Player (WMP) • iTunes and QuickTime • WinAmp • RealPlayer • Internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, and the like) The solution is a utility called the MMe Helper. It allows the software in question to connect to the Digidesign Wavedriver by createing a bridge between the two that runs in the background. For information on how to get the MMe Helper, see Knowledgebase article #29186. For instructions on how to use it, see KB #29187. If it's still not working, see KB #29802.
