In some rare cases the relay that switches between line and mic inputs won't have good contact at first. Repeatedly plugging/unplugging a 1/4 inch jack into the front panel input will "exercise" that relay and clear the problem. (In other words they sometimes need to be "broken in.") If the problem persist you may want to contact tech support.
