Q:
How do I automatically balance or normalize the volume levels across different tracks using Sound Forge?
A:
Volume levels adjusted via a batch process or other automatic function will never balance perceived volume levels between tracks as well as doing it by ear with some analysis of frequency content and appropriate amounts of compression. This is the realm of the mastering engineer. The bottom line is you can't teach a computer program to know how humans perceive volume levels. Sound Forge has all the tools necessary to do a professional job of mastering. Normalization by RMS value, Multi-Band Dynamics, and the Spectrum Analysis tool are widely used for this purpose. The rest is up to your level of patience and experience.
