Q:
CD/DVD writer issues in Wavelab and Wavelab Essential
A:
1. Please make sure that you have installed the latest version of WaveLab (Studio) or WaveLab Essential. Also your operating system should be up-to-date (Windows service packs and all other available updates).
2. If the the burn process doesn't start or burning speeds are not displayed correctly, please use an ASPI driver: * Download www.frogaspi.org/download/wnaspi32.dll * Place the file into the WaveLab application folder. * Uninstall ASAPI (Control panel -> Add/Remove programs) * Restart the computer. Only for WaveLab 6 / WaveLab Studio 6 / WaveLab Essential 6 * If you are experiencing problems (and only in this case) with cd burning or cd grabbing, please use the new aspi driver. The patch should always be applied *after* any WaveLab 6 patch. If you reapply a WaveLab 6 patch, the existing aspi driver will be overwritten. Please find more information about the new aspi driver in the aspi.txt document, which is installed in the WaveLab help folder. 3. WaveLab 5.x or older: If a drive is not listed in the burning dialogue, run the latest recorder update. 4. If a drive is still not listed, please run the Drvreg-tool you can find in C:\program files\Steinberg\Wavelab\Tools\CDR\drvreg.exe to manually assign a driver model for WaveLab. Please read the Readme.txt file in C:\program files\Steinberg\Wavelab\Tools\CDR\ for a description on how to use the program. 5. Other important facts to be considered: * Verify that the DMA (Direct Memory Access) mode is active on your CD/DVD-writer (and all the other drives) using the device manager (Start -> Settings -> Control panel -> System -> Hardware -> device manager). On Windows 95/98/ME you can find this setting directly within the properties of the drive, on Windows 2000 and XP it's in the setting dialogue of the primary and secondary IDE controller. If for some reason it is impossible to enable the DMA mode or after a reboot it is inactive again, you should consult the manufacturer of the producer of the affected hardware. * Newer chipset generations (and their current driver revisions) often have no possibility to activate the DMA mode because the IDE controller already uses DMA anyway. However, it could be that you have to install or update the chipset and bus master drivers if errors occur. If you still have issues with the device, please have a look at the manufacturer's website and check whether firmware updates are available. * The CD/DVD-writer should be installed as "Master" but not as a "Slave" device. * CD Extra: Some drives have issues when using CD Extra in WaveLab. Plextor drives are recommended.
