Pro Audio Support

Q:
Using Digital Performer's "AudioTap" and Rebirth - SETUP Using Digital Performer's "AudioTap" and Rebirth

A:
MOTU Audio System comes with a new plug-in called AudioTap. AudioTap allows
you to route any Sound Manager compatible software directly into Digital Performer.
You can sync a program like ReBirth and listen to it through an aux track or record
ReBirth's output directly into an audio track. This requires Digital Performer 2.6 (or higher), FreeMIDI 1.4 (or higher), and OMS 2.3.6 (or higher). Make sure no programs are running before you begin.

1. Open "FreeMIDI Setup." From the File menu choose "FreeMIDI Preferences." From
the Software Compatibility section check the "Use OMS When Available" box. Choose
"OK" and quit FreeMIDI. (Note that other Sound Manager-based applications might
not require OMS; in this example, ReBirth requires it for sync.)

2. Open "OMS Setup" and configure your studio setup. Save this setup and quit OMS.

3. Open Digital Performer. From the Basics menu, make sure that the "MOTU Audio
System" is selected under the Audio System option. Also make sure that "Audio Patch
Thru" is checked in the Basics menu.

4. From the Basics menu go to MOTU Audio System options and choose Input
Monitoring Mode. Set it to "Monitor record-enabled tracks through effects."

5. From the Basics menu, choose Transmit Sync. From the Transmit Beat Clocks Via
Port(s) option choose IAC Bus #1.

6. Open the Sound Control Panel (not Monitors and Sound). From the pulldown
menu select Sound Out and choose the MAS option. From the same pulldown menu
choose Volumes, and make sure that MAS and "Built-in" are not muted.

7. Open ReBirth. From the Edit menu choose Preferences. Set MIDI Input to IAC Bus
#1, and check the Sync to MIDI Clock box.

If you create a Stereo Aux Track, you will be able to assign the track's input to Sound
Manager Apps 1-2. This will allow you to monitor output ReBirth; you can also apply
MAS effects and control it's level and pan settings from the Mixing Board window.

If you create a Stereo Voice, you can set this track's input to Sound Mgr Apps 1-2.
When this track is record-enabled you can record ReBirth directly into Digital
Performer. Again, you can control this track's level and apply any MAS effect to
ReBirth.
