ASIO Direct I/O v5.0 for Digidesign Hardware is now downloadable at service.steinberg-na.com
This package contains an updated Macintosh Direct IO ASIO to support the Digidesign 001 interface.
If you already have set up your Digidesign Hardware, all you need to do is drop this ASIO driver into the Host application's ASIO Drivers
folder and restart your application.
You will need the newest DigiSystemInit*, at least the 5.0 or the Digi-001 hardware will not be recognized. This new ASIO driver works with most other Digidesign hardware that supports DirectIO, for example the AudioMedia III and the various ProTools Hardware. The new DigiInit is therefore also suitable for older computers. Digidesign recommend this new DigiSystemInit for use with Mac OS9.

While developing and testing this ASIO driver we observed the following that will help you set up your system:
If the Digi001 is not immediately seen please try the following:
a. Remove all other ASIO drivers from your active ASIO folder, the restart Cubase.
b. Trash all related preferences (Digidesign Preferences, Cubase Preferences) then restart Cubase
c. Install the DigiSystemInit 5.0 again, then trash all related preferences once more
d. Reset PRam (hold "option+command+P+R" after first startup tone) to recognize the PCI card correctly again

If you still have problems check the PCI card/Interface cable connections carefully!
The connectors on some Digidesign 001 interfaces are may appear to be correctly seated when they are not. Because of this, if power does not get to the external interface, ASIO will report that the Hardware, including the PCI card cannot be found.

Finally a word about MIDI support:
The current DigiSystemInit 5.0 attempts to register the MIDI ports of the Digi001 to OMS. This occurs as the ASIO attempts to access the 001. Because of this when Cubase VST later attempt to start all OMS devices, the ports are not available. The start up sequence of Cubase VST this is something that cannot easily be changed. We are working with Digidesign to produce a solution that will allow ASIO to initialize audio features of the 001 without the MIDI ports so they can be initialized later by Cubase VST.
