Q:
Software bugs in some versions. recommendations from Yamaha AW4416 software bugs in some versions

A:
Yamaha has recently discovered a couple of software bugs in our latest AW4416 Operating System, and I fear that some of your customers may have received update software in the mail.  Please read the following announcement from Wayne Hrabak, Marketing Manager for Pro Audio:

As a result of several bugs found in the new Version 1.2 software, we have stopped shipping CD-ROMs out to registered users.  The main problem centers on playing back music originally recorded on a previous software version.  If the user attempts using the jog/shuttle wheel while playing back, or activates fast forward or rewind, the sound stops along with all other functions.  The playback button may remain blinking.  After 20 seconds to 2 minutes, playback restarts, as do the other functions.  The danger here is that, if the user turns the unit off while it's in this frozen state, all data will be lost.

YCJ intends to leave 1.2 posted on the Web, primarily for those users needing .WAV export, with a caution regarding the above.

Therefore, for now, we are recommending that users stick with Version 1.1 until the bugs are fixed.  We'll probably be issuing a Version 1.21 at that time.  They're shooting for mid-February.

Please make your technical support staff aware of this in case any of your customers have a problem.  Also please ask them to tell the customers NOT to turn the unit off when if it should ever 'lock up' with this software, or they will lose any data that they have been working on during that session
