Q:
How can I achieve sample accurate sync with a Mac and my ADAT(s)? MTPAV, sample accurate sync between a Mac and ADATs (with Digital Performer and/or Audiodesk)
A:
The MTPAV can provide sample accurate sync with (and only with) ADATs and a MOTU PCI324 system (2408, 308, 1224, etc) with Audioesk or Digital Peformer. Set the MTPAV to it's factory default (hold PANIC while powering up). Connect the ADAT Sync OUT port from the MTPAV to the first ADAT. Loop ADAT sync through all ADATs you'd like to sync. Then take ADAT Sync OUT of the _last_ ADAT and connect it to the 9 pin (adat sync IN) port on the PCI324 card.
In Digital Performer or Audiodesk. Set "Clock Source" (in Configure Hardware Driver) to "PCI324 ADAT". Then choose RECEIVE SYNC from the BASICS menu, and choose the "Sample Accurate" option. Open the MMC window, and enable MMC by clicking the arrow in the picture (so that it's black). When you hit PLAY in DP or Audiodesk, the MTPAV will begin generating timecode. The ADAT's and software will begin synchronizing soon after. For more information and diagrams, see page 27 of the 2408mkII manual.
